BioZone – Antimicrobial Surface Treatment

What is BioZone Protectant?

BioZoneBioZone Protectant is applied by a fog-type mist application that sets up a unique antimicrobial barrier. This is not a cleaning product or a typical sanitizing product that chemically reacts with bacteria and virus. Instead, the BioZone treated surface resembles a barbed-wire covered surface of millions of sharp points that critically damage bacteria and microbe that die on contact.


Medical professionals worry that bacteria can mutate an immunity to nearly any chemical and sanitizer, but bacteria cannot mutate against being stabbed. You see, this is not a chemical reaction but a mechanical process.

Humans cannot feel or detect the BioZone barrier, but when applied to textiles or hard surface, a semipermanent coating has an electrostatic attraction to microbes that are drawn to their death on a membrane piercing surface.

BioZone Protectant antimicrobial is effective against bacteria, germs, organic odors and mildew. This comes as the result of a 24/7 process that greatly inhibits bacteria colonization. By not providing a convenient path for microbes, the possibility of colonizing bacteria to attach and multiply means key avenues are not available. For this reason, the full implementation of the BioZone treats key pathways of disease transmission. They are:

  1. BZP treatment of all surfaces in the facility with the BioZone application
  2. Placement of the BioZone Hand Sanitizer foam (no alcohol, no Triclosan) durable protection
  3. Where applicable, treat towels, uniforms, sports gear, shoes, etc.
  4. Provide BioZone Protect quart sprays for touch-up between applications.

When properly applied, this “Reduction Strategy” seeks to eliminate common pathways of disease transmission. This is a non-invasive, passive strategy that is greatly helped by routine use of the hand sanitizer and treatment of shared clothing or towels.

BioZone Protectant is also very effective in elimination or reduction of odors. Once applied nearly all types of odors will diminish and even disappear. This is because many odors are the result of bacteria. Smoke odors, cooking odors, sweat odors, and more will be greatly reduced by a BioZone application. BioZone Protectant is EPA approved. Once applied, BioZone Protectant is non-toxic and non-leaching. This means the treatment is effective in food areas, schools, day care, and other places that toxic chemicals are now in use to clean and sanitize. In food prep areas, BioZone Protectant can prevent cross contamination by E coli or salmonella. Properly cleaning and food handling processes must also be followed even as BioZone Protectant is in place.

Treatment of textiles requires a treatment of a special formula of BioZone Protectant. Once applied, the odor-fighting and bacteria inhibiting quality works for the life of the product and can withstand more than one hundred washes. There is no discomfort or known reactions to BioZone on clothing. BioZone Protectant applied to sports gear is effective in reducing odors. Sports are common connections for disease transfer. Therefore, treated uniforms and equipment will be an important part of a disease minimization process. Day care and medical office uniforms can also be treated to reduce the potential of spreading disease and improvement of the worker’s health and safety.

Product Technology Explained

When applied to a surface or incorporated into a material, Bio-Zone creates a Microbiostatic Antimicrobial Coating on the applied surface that inhibits odor causing bacteria, mold and mildew. The Microbiostatic Antimicrobial Coating forms a protective barrier that disrupts the membranes of microorganisms.

This new technology provides a perfect technique for inhibiting microorganisms without the use of unsafe heavy metals or poisons. This approach is entirely unique to the Bio-Zone molecule and unlike any other antimicrobial product currently on the market.

The Bio-Zone molecule is made up of several sections. One end of the molecule forms a strong bond to the surface to which it is applied. The surface can be either porous or nonporous. The other end of the molecule forms a microscopic bed of nails that stand straight up from the surface. This nano bed of nails disrupts the microbe’s membrane resulting in its demise all without the use of heavy metals or poisons.

Because the Microbiostatic Antimicrobial Coating’s methodology mechanically disrupts the membrane of the microbe, no microbial resistant “superbugs” are ever created from the treatment.

Product Benefits Outlined

  5. Porous and Non-Porous Surfaces – It is against the law to apply many antimicrobials to porous materials. The Bio-Zone technology allows for treatment of both porous and nonporous materials.
  6. No Super Bugs – Due to the bound technology of Bio-Protect, there is no known or anticipated risk for mutation of microbes into super bugs. Other technologies work by “uploading” into the microorganism sometimes resulting in a mutation of the original microorganism.
  7. Shelf Life – Bio-Zone has a one-year shelf life or longer unopened. Once opened, the product should be used within one year.
  8. Ease of Use – Bio-Zone can be applied in or on almost any substrate. A covalent bond forms with the applied substrate to ensure durability in multiple environments including water, solvents and chemicals.
  9. Safety – Bio-Zone is a completely water-based formulation. It is easily used by field personnel. Bio-Zone has a long safety record with many manufacturers. The product does not contain heavy metals, arsenic, tin, phenols or poisons.
  10. Green – Bio-Zone is as green as an antimicrobial can be due to its bound technology and lack of hazardous chemicals or toxins. Bio-Zone products will eventually break down to carbon dioxide, nitrous dioxide and silicon dioxide. Bio-Protect is the obvious choice when considering the environment and concern for super bugs.
